Aston Villa did their homework. It took a while but they got the better of the Bologna team 2-0 who threatened in the first stage but ended up succumbing to the British power. Jhon Durán was the starter and he did not fail in front of the goal, Lucumí did what he could and in the end lost the duel with his friend from the Colombian National Team.
The Antioquian understood the challenge and after 4 minutes he warned for the first time with a left foot that worried the Italians, an attempt was repeated at 9 minutes, always threatening the only one in front of the villains from the beginning. It is worth mentioning that Dallinga and Ndoye also approached the visitor with dangerous efforts that exposed obvious flaws in the local defence.
Lucumí had a lot of work to do from the whistle, cutting out crosses and passing the ball to the sides and, as if that wasn’t enough, controlling Durán’s shots, who is well known for their two recent positions in the Colombian National Team.
Tielemans was encouraged at around 20 but goalkeeper Skorupski saved and Durán appeared as an assistant, but McGinn did not capitalize and little by little the home owner came closer to the first goal, since he was in control of the game already to his heart’s content.
It was Durán who inspired it
But the goals didn’t wait until the second half and they did it in Aston Villa style, with precision and strength.
On 54 minutes the first goal came from above, a great assist and a better finish to do justice to the score at 1-0.
And at 63, a turn for 63 minutes, the unstoppable Durán appeared precisely in the center and it seemed that he scored a kick to celebrate.
However, there was a mole: right after his celebration, coach Emery decided to take him off the field and make way for Watkins. The initial reaction was annoyance, he looked furious on the bench and went to the dressing room, but luckily he emerged later, at the end of the match, to celebrate with his team.
Aston Villa are the leaders in their field in the Champions League and Durán’s scoring pace is unstoppable. Everything is happy in Birmingham.
