Astronomers are trying to monitor the nearest black hole to Earth

The pace of work in space is accelerating in order to monitor many discoveries, especially after the US space agency NASA announced the launch of the James Webb telescope, which revealed many space secrets and was able to photograph precise positions in space for galaxies, stars and other planets outside the solar system.

NASA has also previously succeeded in launching the Hubble Telescope, which works alongside James Webb in the field of space discoveries, which prompted astronomers at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics to try to find a way to monitor what could be the second closest supermassive black hole. block to the floor.

Scientists revealed that the second closest supermassive black hole, with a gigantic mass of 3 million times the mass of the Sun, is hosted by the dwarf galaxy Leo I.

And the “Space” website said, “The massive black hole, named Leo I *, was first proposed by an independent team of astronomers in late 2021, as the team noticed that the stars pick up their speed as they approach the center of the galaxy, which is evidence of the existence of a black hole.” , but no direct imaging of an emission from a black hole has been made.

Media reports about that mission added that astrophysicists Fabio Bacucci and Avi Loeb had found a new way to verify the existence of the massive black hole.

Scientific reports added that the two astronomers found the method. Their work is described in a study published today in Astrophysical Journal Letters.

Astronomy researcher Fabio Baccocchi commented that black holes are very elusive things, adding, “Light rays cannot escape their event horizon, but the surrounding environment can be very bright, if enough material falls into the gravitational well.” But if the black hole isn’t swallowing mass, it instead emits no light and is impossible to find with our telescopes.”

“It could be groundbreaking to observe this cluster, which could be the second closest supermassive black hole after the one at the center of our galaxy,” says Avi Loeb, co-author of the study.
