Astronomical Autumn / Day will begin on Sunday

by times news cr

It will start at 15.43, according to the data available on the “timeanddate.com” portal.

Around the equinox, both hemispheres of the Earth receive the same amount of sunlight and heat, and day and night are roughly the same length around the world.

However, on September 22, the day in Latvia will be 12 minutes longer than the night, and September 25 will be the first day this fall when the day is shorter than the night.

Such a difference arises because the length of day and night is determined by taking into account the refraction of light in the atmosphere, and sunrise and sunset are called the moment when the upper edge of the Sun’s disk appears or disappears near the horizon, and not the center.

Meteorological or thermal autumn begins when the average air temperature is lower than +15 degrees for at least five days in a row. For now, the weather in Latvia is on the border between meteorological summer and autumn; meteorological autumn is expected to have set in throughout the country in the last days of September.

The calendar autumn starts on September 1 and ends on November 30 every year. The solar seasons are divided according to the length of the day, or the duration of the sunshine. Solar autumn in Latvia starts around August 6 and ends on November 5 every year, so the beginning of astronomical autumn is the middle of solar autumn.
