Asus Introduces ZenBook 17 Fold: The Foldable Laptop

by time news

Asus has a lot to show off at the CES show that is taking place these days in Vegas: the company has launched the ZenBook 17 Fold, The tablet-laptop with a fully foldable OLED screen. This is a significant development from the Project Precog concept with a dual screen that the company introduced in 2018. The tablet comes with a Bluetooth keyboard with a touchpad, with the screen partially folded and the keyboard located in the lower half. This is how it can actually be used as a 12.5-inch laptop with FullHD resolution. But when you disconnect the keyboard, you can place the tablet and enjoy a 17.3-inch screen with a 4: 3 aspect ratio with QHD resolution. The screen also supports the DCI-P3 color standard, with a refresh rate of 90 Hz.

The ZenBook 17 Fold has a 75 kW battery, WiFi 63 connectivity, Bluetooth 5.2, a Dolby Atmos system with four speakers and 1 terabyte of storage. The computer supports up to 16 GB of operating memory and comes with the latest Intel processor. It seems that while the race for the folding smartphone is at its peak, in the laptop-tablet segment, the field is a bit calmer when in 2020 Lenovo launched the flexible ThinkPad X1, and has not gained momentum since.

Asus has not yet revealed the price of the ZenBook 17 Fold, with plans to release it in stores during May, in parallel with the annual Computex show in Taiwan. The keyboard and screen together weigh 1.8 kg, so it is not clear how popular it will be due to its weight which may be a barrier. Just to mention that flexible screens are very expensive, and it is possible that the price of a computer – a laptop tablet will not be cheap at all.
