Under the knife, lives are rebuilt. At the start of this spring morning at the Angers University Hospital, Jean-René is ready for his operation in the department of surgery plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic by Professor Pascal Rousseau. Here, we work to repair faces and bodies, sometimes for aesthetic reasons alone, often to correct a malformation, or after an illness or an accident. This is the case of Jean-René, who suffered serious scalp burns a year ago from a chemical product in a hairdressing salon. “With my burn, I can no longer work. I’m nothing without my work.” confides the young electrician. But today is the big day: the surgeons will cut his scalp and insert balloons so that the skin swells, then eventually stretches to cover the entire head.
