The principle of this motion of no confidence had been fixed since June 23 and a week marked by two general assemblies. The first, Monday 19, was convened in the wake of Emmanuel Macron’s trip to kyiv. While two journalists working for France Télévisions (but not integrated into the editorial staff), Mohamed Bouhafsi, from the program “C à vous” (France 5), and Guy Lagache, author of the documentary A President, Europe and the War, broadcast on June 30, on France 2, were on the trip, the editorial teams in Paris had heard of the information only very late. To the point of feeling cheated, especially as TF1, BFM-TV or even Le Figaro et The world were part of the move. “It was another flop”, testifies a journalist, for whom the flow of information between the floor of the management and that of the editorial staff, chronically failing, revealed its ultimate limits on this occasion. The lack of involvement of the information department of France Télévisions to win exclusives of this type is also questioned.

CDD not renewed

Came to explain himself in front of his troops (“Some had never seen him in the two years he has been in office”, assures a department head), Laurent Guimier, questioned about the lack of staff, had assured that there was no need to worry. The next day, however, department heads were informed that five fixed-term contracts would not be renewed this summer. A new general assembly had then been convened, which had acted, by an overwhelming majority, the principle of the motion voted on Thursday. The announcement that the summer news would host reruns of timeless stories from the year added to the consternation. “We have the feeling that the only compass is downsizing”, loose a reporter, bitter. Contacted, the former vice-CEO of Europe 1 and ex-director of Franceinfo did not wish to react, for the moment.

Already in January, recalls a member of the Society of Journalists of France 2, a draft motion of no confidence against Laurent Guimier had germinated, when it appeared that the political program « Elysée 2022”, which he co-presented with Léa Salamé, skated. “But nobody wanted to play with fire during the election campaign”he explains, and the idea had been shelved.
