The video was posted on social networks on Tuesday evening, on the eve of the general conflagration. This Wednesday, two schools in La Verrière (Yvelines) went up in smoke in the middle of the night. As elsewhere in France, and particularly in Île-de-France, this town of 6,000 inhabitants faced a night of riots, following the death of young Nahel, in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine).

Tuesday evening, at the foot of a building in the Orly-Parc district, the mayor (DVD), Nicolas Dainville speaks in front of the camera, as if to formalize a call for help. “The hour is serious”, he said, before announcing what he considers as an “abandonment” harbinger of a “catastrophe”. The state, he explains, plans to redefine the geography of the priority districts of the city policy (QPV). And the Orly-Parc district is threatened.

This Thursday, Pascal Courtade, the prefect delegate for equal opportunities, assures that he has obtained “all the guarantees” for the maintenance of this device at La Verrière. “The list of all French priority neighborhoods will be made official in the fall, but concerning this town, we have just obtained clear and definite guarantees from the National Agency for Territorial Cohesion (ANCT),” he explains. he.

A petition in municipal structures

As of last Saturday, a petition for the maintenance of Orly-Parc in this aid system was made available to the inhabitants in the town hall and in the socio-cultural centers Jacques-Miquel and Rosa-Parks. Also relayed by the collective of tenants of Orly-Parc (Colp), the document brings together “several hundred signatures”.

“If Orly-Parc were no longer a so-called priority district, residents would be unfairly deprived of many local public services and the consequences would be dramatic,” explains the elected official in a text that accompanies his speech on social networks.

“Many state subsidies would be abolished and the city would no longer be able to carry out as many actions in favor of educational success, support for parenthood, access to culture, employment assistance …” he develops.

In his call for mobilization, the mayor of La Verrière pointed to the examples of a “reality on the ground, which we experience on a daily basis”. Increase in charges, multiplication of single-parent families “who are struggling to make ends meet”, the question of work in a neighborhood where the number of employees in precarious employment has been “multiplied by four in four years”… “We must refuse this abandonment of the state as the neighborhood weakens,” he insisted.

“We had doubts, it’s true, but today, there is no longer a subject, insists this Thursday the prefect delegate for equal opportunities. We are in a moment of unity, alongside this town in which two schools have just burned down. »
