At least 135 millimeters of rain in three hours: the deluge in Nîmes

After an afternoon of September 6 spent in heavy rain in the Hérault, it was the Gard, at nightfall, which suffered violent weather. Torrential rains followed the thunderstorms over the entire Nîmes agglomeration.

The red alert was issued shortly after 2 a.m. by Météo-France. It was able to be lifted at 6 a.m., after calm returned. “The Nîmes urban area was hit by a violent storm during the night, up to 135 millimeters of rain fell”told Agence France-Presse a spokesperson for the Gard fire department.

Thursday, September 7, thirteen departments remained on orange alert due to stormy recoveries expected in the afternoon.
