The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a monitoring organization of Syrian activists based in Great Britain, reports that the number of dead is higher and that there was an intense attack on a military facility.
The Israeli armed forces, which have carried out hundreds of strikes in the neighboring country since the start of the civil war in Syria in 2011, refused to comment on the news of the latest attack.
Referring to a source in the medical circles, SANA reports that 16 people were killed, 36 injured, and the condition of six injured is critical in “Israel’s aggression against several objects on the outskirts of Masyaf”.
SOHR reports “intense Israeli strikes” overnight and 25 deaths, including “five civilians, four soldiers and intelligence officers and 13 Syrians who collaborated with pro-Iranian groups”.
Another three bodies have not been identified, according to SOHR.
SANA, citing a source in the army, reported that “on Sunday around 11:20 p.m., the enemy Israel launched an air attack” from the north-western direction of Lebanon, “targeting several military facilities in the central region.”
Air defenses “knocked down some” missiles, SANA reported.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the airstrikes, accusing Israel of trying to “provoke a wider escalation in the region”.
The number of Israeli airstrikes on Syria increased sharply with the outbreak of the Gaza war on October 7, but after the April 1 attack on the Iranian consular building in Damascus, for which Israel is also blamed, their number decreased.
Syria tries not to get involved in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
