The previous toll revealed that 21 people had been killed.
Johnny Valderrama, director of the Highway Safety Department, told RBB Radio that the bus, which was carrying more than 40 passengers, was going from Lima to the Ayacucho region in the Andes when it went off a slope about 200 meters on height.
20 people injured in the accident were taken to nearby hospitals, and rescue teams worked to recover bodies from the wreckage.
Accidents on Peru’s winding mountain roads are common due to speeding, poor road maintenance, lack of traffic lights and lax enforcement of driving rules.
Last year, the country recorded more than 3,130 deaths due to traffic accidents.
