Merseyside Police said at around 11.50am local time (1:50 p.m. Lithuanian time) received reports of a knife attack and emergency services were called to a “major attack” in the city.
“A number of casualties are being reported and more information will be confirmed as it becomes available.” The police arrested the man and confiscated the knife. He was taken to the police station,” the latest police statement said.
“Please avoid this area while we investigate this crime.” There is no wider threat to society.”
Local businessman Colin Parry, who was one of the people who called the police, said the incident in Southport was like “a scene from a horror movie”, reports PA Media.
Mr Parry said he believed several young girls had been stabbed.
“Mothers now come here and scream. It’s like a scene from a horror movie,” Parry said, adding that “the police caught the criminal.”
“It’s like something from America, not from sunny Southport,” Parry said.
UK MP Patrick Hurley, who represents the city of Southport, says he is deeply concerned by the incident.
“I hope that all the victims will recover successfully. In my thoughts, I am with all the victims, their relatives and the whole community”, – Soc. wrote Mr. Hurley on the X network.
