At least ten Syrian citizens were killed and many others injured in an attack by Israeli fighters against a cement factory in a city in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese news agency, NNA, reported this Saturday.
The Israeli attack took place after midnight from Friday to Saturday and targeted a cement factory in the industrial area of Toul al Kfour, in Nabatieh, according to the agency. The emergency service of the Ministry of Health of Lebanon said that “the number of martyrs is ten Syrians, including a woman and her two children, and five wounded, including three Syrians, two of whom “how dangerous.”
For its part, the Israeli Defense Forces reported this morning, through a statement on its social networks, that the air strike targeted “terrorists” from the Lebanese Hezbollah militia. “Yesterday, the Israeli Air Force attacked Hezbollah military units in the areas of Hanine and Maroun El Ras, in southern Lebanon,” the Israeli army maintained. In their statement they confirmed that the target was not a cement factory, but an “arms depot” of the Lebanese group.
According to the EFE agency, the other two injured are a Lebanese woman and a Sudanese man. Lebanon’s emergency services agency is expected to announce a “final and accurate balance” after confirming the identities of the victims.
The latest Israeli attack is part of an upsurge in violence on the Syrian-Lebanese border that has escalated after an Israeli bomb in late May killed a Hezbollah commander south of Beirut. The army – which is supported by Iran and which has significant political weight in Lebanon – vowed to avenge the assassination of its leader, and since then the tension between Israel and Lebanon has continued to increase. A few weeks ago, a Hezbollah rocket attack killed 12 children in the Golan Heights, an area under Israeli military occupation. This Friday, the Israeli army killed a member of the Lebanese army in a bomb, also in southern Lebanon.
