BOLZANO. The new Noi Techpark in Bolzano was inaugurated today (19 September) Faculty of Engineering of the Free University of Bolzano in the presence of over 200 guests. A new chapter opens for the South Tyrolean innovation district.

The degree courses will focus on robotics, automation and artificial intelligence. 800 young people They will study, research and train one step away from the innovation ecosystem of Us which includes over 70 companies, 30 start-ups, research institutes and business associations. A community that doubles with the arrival of the new faculty, reaching over 2,400 people.

“Just a few weeks ago we inaugurated two new buildings at Noi. Today we are celebrating another important step that will transform this hub into a real campus. This constant growth is a sign of the attractiveness that Noi Techpark has now acquired”, declared the provincial councilor for Innovation and Research, Philipp Achammerduring the inauguration ceremony. “For our research and innovation system, for the city of Bolzano and for the whole of South Tyrol, the Noi is a fundamental engine of development and the new Faculty of Engineering of the University fits in today as a jewel in the crown, projected towards the future”, explained the President of the Province Arno Kompatscher.

In her welcome speech, the president of NOI Helga Thaler Ausserhofer spoke of a milestone for the NOI Techpark. “The foundation stone for the construction of the new faculty building was laid in March 2022. Despite difficult circumstances due to rising prices and delivery difficulties, which caused several delays, the building was completed on time in two and a half years,” he explained.

The costs foreseen by the program amount to 57.2 million euros. The additional costs of 6.5 million euros were entirely financed by state equalization funds. The Free University of Bolzano, which is currently part of the innovation district with 13 research laboratories and three faculties, will become the main player in the Noi Techpark with today’s inauguration.

Regular university activity will begin in October with a total of 15 corsi. “For a faculty like ours, having a location at Noi is a unique opportunity, as it brings research, students and companies closer together, thus unlocking new innovation potential. Upon completion of their studies, graduates will be able to start new entrepreneurial ventures, helping to shape the economic future of the region. This synergy will benefit both us as a university and Noi Techpark and will perhaps open the door to establishing other faculties at Noi”, commented Professor Paul Luglirector of the Free University of Bolzano.
