At the Barcolana an immersive experience to protect the sea – Science and Technology

(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 03 OCT – The philanthropist and sailor Wendy Schmidt arrives at Barcolana56 not to race, but to propose to the public, together with the protected marine area of ​​Miramare, an innovative pavilion dedicated to the discovery of the sea, which will be installed in Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia in Trieste and inaugurated on 5 October.
Called Deep Blue Exploration Zone in honor of Deep Blue, the Botin 85 with which Wendy won Barcolana 54, the installation will aim to raise public awareness of the importance of conserving the marine environment.
The immersive experience – a note announces – will present evocative video footage of the ocean explorations conducted by the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s Falkor (too) research vessel alongside the beauties of the Gulf of Trieste and the marine reserve managed by the WWF. The aim will be to offer a visual experience and an invitation to reflect on the fragility of marine ecosystems. “The sea is our pantry, our pharmacy, our playground. It is our source of life – comments Wendy Schmidt – we hope that by sharing the wonders of the deep sea with all those who pass through the regatta village, they will understand how the ocean is connected to all life on our planet and for us to work together to protect it.”
“The project launched together with Wendy Schmidt and the Amp Miramare – states Mitja Gialuz, president of the Barcola and Grignano Sailing Society – is a strong incentive for us to continue our commitment to raising awareness and collaborating with prestigious organizations for the protection of the sea”.

The consequences of global warming, the exploitation of fish stocks, the invasion of alien species and the “Plastic pollution is threatening this delicate ecosystem.
