President Yitzhak Herzog and his wife Michal went on a state visit to Turkey on Wednesday at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. During the planned visit, the President will visit Ankara, where he will be received at a state reception ceremony at the palace of the President of Turkey and in Istanbul the President will meet with members of the Jewish community.
President Yitzhak Herzog will be the first Israeli leader to visit Turkey since 2008. The last state visit of the President of the State of Israel to Turkey was in 2003.
With the inauguration of the President, the President of Turkey called to congratulate him on his election, a conversation that led to the resumption of dialogue between the two countries after years of disengagement.
During the visit, coordinated with the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and their offices, the leaders will discuss various bilateral issues, including relations between the countries and the potential for increasing cooperation on various issues between the countries and the peoples.
