Andrea Iannone seems to have almost closed his future in the Superbike World Championship. The Italian driver has spent a few months trying out a seat in the competition run by Dorna, and according to what they say, it seems that there would only be a few fringes to close, but that the operation would be almost done. That may explain his continuous presence in the paddockincluding the last round in Imola.
On January 1, 2024 Andrea Iannone will be released from all penance. The Lausanne CAS imposed a disqualification on him on November 10 until that date, and with half a year left to fulfill it, the Italian is already moving into Superbikes for next season. And far from any speculation, it is something that he himself has confirmed to Sky Sports.
“I am working to return to the track in 2024 in Superbikes, for now there are good possibilities, for now I will just say that we are going in the right direction”, he commented to the microphones, taking advantage of the last Italian round. “Superbikes is spectacular, it’s nice to see races like these, full of overtaking like in the past. I am happy to be here in the paddock”, she mentioned.
However, it seems that we will not find out what his final destination will be for the moment: “Until everything is settled, I don’t think it’s fair to say where I’ll be”. Although everything seems to indicate, due to his continuous approaches to Ducati, that this could be the place where he would end up running.
Team Barni would be an ideal destination. Surrounded by Italians, and by Danilo Petrucci (if he doesn’t change his structure by then) he points out ways. The team leader has been positive about the possible arrival of the Italian, as he has mentioned this year, although they should put a second bike on the go.
But of course, to run in the team Iannone would have to make a significant outlay of money: “We are talking about 800,000 euros for a second motorcycle. Certainly, if you want to compete with a talent like Iannone’s, you need to do a high-level project. If, on the contrary, you do it to do it, better not do it. If I had to find the budget, we could think about a second bike with Iannone. He has been out for four years and it is a bet for everyone, but the numbers speak for him and we must not forget himo”, concluded Barnabó.
