At the Paralympic Games in road cycling, Gailiš overtakes by a lap in the group race /

Para-athletes competed in the group race over a distance of 99.4 kilometers, which was divided into seven laps.

Ukrainian Yehor Dementiev became the winner, who overtook the second-placed Frenchman Kevin Lekenf in the sprint to the finish, while the top three were completed by Dutch representative Martin van de Pol. The four leading cyclists reached the finish line after two hours, 18 minutes and 59 seconds.

The distance was divided into seven laps, and in the last lap Gailiš was overtaken by a group of leading cyclists, from whom the Latvian was less than 21 minutes behind at that time. Before the leading cyclists overtook Gailiš, he was in 18th position.

Out of the 26 cyclists who started, 17 para-athletes reached the result, five were overtaken by a lap, and four did not reach the finish line.

Gailišs already competed in the individual race in these Paralympic Games, winning 13th place. Paralympic Games debutant Gailiš also participated in track cycling competitions, where he took 23rd place in the individual race and 11th place in the pursuit.

The Paris Paralympic Games will end on September 8, with Latvians competing in athletics, paralympic dressage, cycling, swimming and shooting.

22 sports are represented in the Paralympic Games, in which about 4,400 athletes compete.
