BPC: At what age is it possible to receive INSS? Seniors over 65 years old and people with disabilities of any age are entitled, provided they prove low income.

The Benefit of Continuous Provision (BPC), provided for in the Organic Law of Social Assistance (Loas), is the guarantee of one minimum wage per month to the elderly aged 65 years or over or to the disabled person of any age. In the case of a person with a disability, this condition must be capable of causing long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments (with effects for at least 2 years), which makes it impossible to participate fully and effectively in the society on an equal basis with others.

BPC is not retirement. To be entitled to it, it is not necessary to have contributed to the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). Unlike social security benefits, the BPC does not pay the 13th salary and does not leave a death pension. To be entitled to the BPC, it is necessary that the income per person in the family group is equal to or less than 1/4 of the minimum wage (How to calculate per capita family income).

In addition to income according to the established requirement, people with disabilities also undergo a medical and social assessment at the INSS.
