The Minister of Internal Affairs Atanas Ilkov met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Sofia N. PR. Mehmet Sait Uyanak. He welcomed the representatives of the embassy and expressed hope that the traditional partnership between the two countries will continue along all lines of mutual interest. The highlights of the conversation were the priorities of cooperation, among which the management of migration and the protection of the common border, the measures to counter drug trafficking and the projects to facilitate the passage through the “Kapitan Andreevo” checkpoint by expanding the border post. This was announced by the Ministry of the Interior.

His Excellency Ambassador Mehmet Sait Uyanak wished his host a successful mandate and success in fulfilling the main tasks before the government.

The two confirmed the good cooperation between the countries in the field of internal affairs and discussed measures by which it could be upgraded and which would give an additional incentive to officials to work together to achieve even better results.

They noted the reduced migration pressure by more than 70 percent as a result of the increased dialogue and the actions of the competent authorities of both countries.

His Excellency thanked the services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for crossing the road of drug trafficking from and to Europe, including by air.

The good joint organization for the unhindered passage of citizens through the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing was also noted, from where a record number of passenger vehicles were registered this year – between 5,000 and 9,000 per day at the entrance to Turkey and between 3,500 and 5,500 at the exit to Bulgaria. in this connection, the project for the complete reconstruction and repair of the border crossing was discussed.

During the meeting, Minister Atanas Ilkov extended an invitation to visit Sofia to his colleague – the Minister of Internal Affairs of Turkey, Ali Yerlikaya.

As a sign of respect and in confirmation of the desire for good mutual cooperation, the hosts and guests exchanged plaques and symbolic gifts.
