Group ATEEZ ranked first on the US Billboard main album chart, ’Billboard 200′, with the mini album ‘GOLDEN HOUR: Part.2’.
The US Billboard announced on the 25th that ‘Golden Hour: Part 2’ debuted at number one on the ‘Billboard 200’ with 184,000 album units. ‘Billboard 200’ calculates album units by converting physical album sales and streaming numbers into album sales (SEA), and converting the number of digital music downloads into album sales. According to Billboard, ATEEZ’s new album ranked first on the ‘Top Album Sales’ chart, selling 179,000 albums during this chart period.
Billboard said, “‘Golden Hour: Part 2’ is mostly in Korean, and is the 26th case of a non-English album reaching #1 and the third case this year.” He also added, “Of the 26 non-English albums that ranked first, 17 were mostly in Korean.”
In this album, ATEEZ talked about the love that surrounds them. The members put the message in the song that it is important to live fiercely at every moment in the process of discovering one’s whole self. This is the second time that ATEEZ has reached the top spot on the ‘Billboard 200’ since their 2nd full-length album ‘THE WORLD EP. FIN: WILL’ in December last year.

How do the themes of love and self-discovery in K-Pop music resonate with today’s youth?
Interview between Time.news Editor and K-Pop Expert
Time.news Editor (TNE): Welcome, and thank you for joining us today! We have exciting news to discuss, particularly concerning the remarkable achievement of the boy group ATEEZ, which recently topped the US Billboard 200 chart with their mini album ‘GOLDEN HOUR: Part 2’. Can you provide us with some insight into what this milestone means for the group and K-Pop as a whole?
K-Pop Expert (KPE): Thank you for having me! ATEEZ’s achievement is monumental not just for the group, but also for the K-Pop industry. Topping the Billboard 200 indicates a growing global acceptance and appreciation for Korean music. It’s particularly impressive because their album is largely in Korean, making it one of the few non-English titles to reach the top. This reinforces K-Pop’s cultural impact and showcases the power of music transcending language barriers.
TNE: Absolutely! ATEEZ is becoming a prominent name on the global stage. Could you elaborate on the specific factors contributing to their success in terms of this new album?
KPE: Certainly! There are several key factors. First, ATEEZ has a dedicated international fanbase, known as ATINY, which plays a significant role in promoting their music. Second, ‘GOLDEN HOUR: Part 2’ contained a strong message about self-discovery and living life passionately, which resonates with many listeners. The blending of catchy melodies and meaningful lyrics contributes to their growing appeal. Furthermore, their engagement on social media and involvement in performances also enhances their visibility and connection with fans.
TNE: It’s fascinating to see how these elements come together for success. Speaking of messages, the themes in ATEEZ’s music often focus on love and self-discovery. How do you think this resonates with their audience, especially considering the current cultural landscape?
KPE: In today’s world, where many young people are navigating personal challenges and searching for their identities, ATEEZ’s focus on topics like love and self-discovery hits home. Their music encourages listeners to embrace their journey and emotions, making it relatable for a broad audience. This authenticity in their art fosters a deeper connection with their fans. The timing of this album, coming during a period of global uncertainty, only amplifies its emotional relevance.
TNE: That’s a great point. Considering ATEEZ’s second time topping the Billboard 200, what does this say about their growth as artists?
KPE: This achievement underscores their evolution as artists and entertainers. Their earlier work laid the foundation, but with each subsequent release, ATEEZ has honed their sound and expanded their range. They’ve successfully experimented with different musical styles while maintaining their identity. The ability to craft compelling narratives in their albums also showcases their maturity and creativity, indicating they are not just a flash in the pan but are here to stay.
TNE: There has been a notable increase in non-English albums making it to the top of the charts. What does this mean for future K-Pop artists?
KPE: This trend signals a shifting landscape in the music industry where non-English music can achieve mainstream success. It opens doors for future K-Pop artists to break into international markets without the need to produce English tracks. Labels may be more willing to invest in global promotion for non-English albums, which could pave the way for diverse storytelling and a broader range of musical expressions in the genre.
TNE: It sounds like we’re on the cusp of an exciting era for K-Pop! Before we wrap up, do you have any predictions for what’s next for ATEEZ and the broader K-Pop scene?
KPE: I believe ATEEZ will continue to rise, potentially embarking on global tours to further connect with their fans. As for K-Pop we can expect more cross-genre collaborations and innovation in both music and performance styles. The industry is likely to see more diversity with new artists bringing their unique influences, further enriching the K-Pop tapestry.
TNE: Thank you for your insightful analysis! It’s clear that ATEEZ and K-Pop are making waves in the music industry, and we look forward to witnessing their journey. Thank you for joining us today!
KPE: Thank you for having me! It’s always a pleasure to discuss the fascinating world of K-Pop.
