Ather Energy is expanding its electric two-wheeler lineup with a new mass-market machine designed for everyday family commutes. The upcoming vehicle breaks from the company’s traditional styling and construction methods, aiming directly at mainstream buyers who prefer traditional build qualities and practical features. Ather CEO Tarun Mehta shared a fresh teaser ahead of the official debut, stating on Twitter that they were saying hello to Konarc, noting that they had been working on a few things differently with the model, offering a little sneak peek of one of them, telling people to turn the volume up, and announcing that it would be launching on August 29th at Ather Community Day.

The Konarc stands as the first production scooter built on Ather’s new EL platform. Company claims indicate the underlying framework was developed with more than 26 lakh kilometres of real-world riding data, providing a scalable foundation capable of supporting a range of upcoming scooter models later on and different battery configurations too.
In a departure from Ather’s existing scooters, which have primarily used polymer body panels, the Konarc features apparent metal body panels. In the video shared on Twitter by Tarun Mehta, he is seen attaching magnets to one of the scooter’s body panels, hinting that at least some sections could be made of metal and strengthening earlier reports. This design choice could help Ather appeal to traditional scooter buyers who associate metal construction with a more substantial and durable feel, aligning it with models such as the Honda Activa and Bajaj Chetak, both of which use metal panels.

Leaked information indicates that the Ather Konarc is expected to be offered in six variants, including four S trims (SR1, SR2, SR3, and SR4) and two higher-spec Q variants (QR2 and QR3). The wide variant spread suggests Ather is looking to cater to different price points and range requirements in the family electric scooter segment.

A recent BikeDekho report says leaked information points to the Konarc potentially offering up to 200 km of claimed range, along with fast-charging capability, which should be treated as a reported specification rather than a final company-confirmed figure. The Konarc is expected to debut Ather’s new Bedrock battery platform, with IDC-certified range figures of up to 100 km, 125 km, 160 km, and 200 km depending on the variant. Earlier reports have suggested a wider range of possible battery configurations, and the EL platform itself is reported to support battery packs ranging from 2 kWh to 5 kWh, although that does not mean every battery size will necessarily be offered on the Konarc.
To reduce upfront purchasing barriers, Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) is another feature that could make the Konarc more attractive to price-conscious buyers, as Ather already offers BaaS on select models. Under the company’s existing system, customers pay for the scooter without the battery upfront and then subscribe to a battery plan based on usage, which Ather says can reduce the upfront cost of ownership with plans based on kilometres ridden. However, Ather has not yet officially confirmed BaaS specifically for the Konarc, though if the company extends the model to its upcoming mass-market scooter, it could potentially make the entry price considerably more attractive.

Positioned below Ather’s existing Rizta and 450 products, the Konarc is expected to take the brand even more down the pricing ladder to compete in India’s highly competitive family electric-scooter segment. Industry reports currently place the expected starting price at around ₹1 lakh to ₹1.25 lakh (ex-showroom), though the actual final price is going to hinge on the battery setup, the added features, and also whether Ather decides to offer multiple variants.
Practicality drives the rest of the package. Spy shots and teasers suggest the scooter will feature a handlebar-mounted headlamp, a wide LED DRL, a long single-piece seat, a roomy floorboard, slim LED tail lamps, and a front disc brake. The suspension setup is expected to include telescopic front forks, while the scooter is likely to ride on a 14-inch front wheel and a 12-inch rear wheel. Braking duties are expected to be handled by a front disc and a rear drum, supported by Ather’s Advanced Electrical Braking System, which combines regenerative and conventional braking. Technology features are expected to come equipped with a TFT instrument cluster and smartphone connectivity features, alongside Ather Stack 7.0 bringing functions such as voice commands, pothole alerts, tow and crash notifications, onboard navigation that can operate independently without the need for a connected smartphone, multiple riding modes, reverse assist, and hill-hold control.
