INVESTIGATION – A study of 42 world-class runners shows that they can return to their best after childbirth.
The recent misadventure of navigator Clarisse Crémer, ousted by her sponsor Banque Populaire after her maternity, has come to remind us that the sporting world is not kind to athletes who want to return to competition after their pregnancy. For many, the reality is still a choice between family and career.
A Canadian study, published in January in the scientific journal Medicine and Science in Sport and Exercise (MSSE) could give food for thought to the various sports bodies and sponsors.
The researchers show that not only the athletes who wanted to return to competition after giving birth had regained their level of performance, but for more than half, had even performed better than before becoming a mother.
