(ANSA) – ROME, SEPTEMBER 10 – Gianmarco Tamberi still has energy and he uses it at the Galà dei Castelli in Bellinzona, Switzerland: in front of many Italian fans in Canton Ticino, the world champion jumps 2.27 in his second attempt and wins the competition five days before the Wanda Diamond League final in Brussels (the high jump is scheduled for Saturday evening) where he will be able to try for the third Diamond of his career. Gimbo fails twice at 2.20 and saves himself on the third attempt, then stays in the competition with the Ukrainian Oleh Doroshchuk who, together with the Italian, clears 2.24 in his first attempt, and then overtakes him in the rankings thanks to a successful attempt at 2.27, the only one to do so. The Fiamme Oro jumper then fails three times at 2.30, with a final jump close to the target. There were four Italians on the platform in the high jump: Manuel Lando (Aeronautica), Stefano Sottile (Fiamme Azzurre) and Matteo Sioli (Euroatletica 2002) finished at 2.20, respectively third, fourth and fifth, on an evening with temperatures below 20 degrees and in a Silver stage of the Continental Tour that had lost the Qatari Mutaz Barshim before the start of the race due to a muscle strain. In the shot put Leonardo Fabbri (Aeronautica) was third with 21.36: the first two places went to the Americans Ryan Crouser (22.25) and Payton Otterdahl (21.61). Fourth was Nick Ponzio (Athletic Club 96 Alperia) with 21.09 ahead of Olympic medalists Joe Kovacs (USA, 21.07) and Rajindra Campbell (Jamaica, 20.80), eighth Zane Weir (Fiamme Gialle) with 20.40. Fabbri will return to the platform late Saturday afternoon for the Diamond League final. Fourth place for Marcell Jacobs in the 100 meters with a time of 10.12 (+0.2): the European champion was beaten by Jamaican Ackeem Blake (9.96) who ran away from him at the start, by South African Akani Simbine (10.04) and by Cameroonian Emmanuel Eseme (10.11). For the Fiamme Oro sprinter it was the last race of the year: now the return to the United States (Wednesday), a period of rest and then the start of the preparation for the World Championships in Tokyo next year, with intermediate stages in the indoor season.
