After bidding farewell to his English public this Sunday during the London Marathon where he took 9th place in 2h10′28′’ nine minutes behind winner Kelvin Kiptum, Mo Farah begins his tour of the Grand Dukes. The four-time British Olympic champion has announced that he will run his last races before retiring at 40. The official end is scheduled for September 10 with the Great North Run, the Newcastle Half Marathon. In the meantime, he is also expected to compete in the Great Manchester Run 10k on May 21.

The double Olympic champion 5,000m and 10,000m in London 2012 and Rio 2016, announced Thursday before the race: “This will be my last marathon. After that, I will do a few more races but in terms of a marathon, it will be the last”.

The announcement of his future retirement obviously caused a reaction in the world of athletics. Starting with London Marathon winner Kelvin Kiptum. “I watched Mo Farah when I was a kid, he was a huge athlete,” says the Kenyan. Or Amos Kipruto, 30, who assured that his 10-year-old had been “a real inspiration for the younger generation”.

If Mo Farah chose London for his last marathon, it is obviously no coincidence. “I owe it to the British public and to the people who have followed me throughout my career,” explains the man who was elevated to the rank of Sir.

After his last marathon, the six-time world champion reacted to the BBC microphone: “My career has been incredible. My wife and children have been with me on this journey and I want to give them time now. I also want to get involved in grassroots sport and give back to this discipline (everything she brought him). »
