A victory for Wilfried Happio. This time it is not a success on the athletics tracks, but in the judicial sphere. The Paris prosecutor’s office has just dismissed the complaint filed against him by a triple jumper who accused him of sexual assault.
“The complaint for sexual assault against Wilfried Happio has been dismissed, reacted his lawyer, Me Anthony Mottai. The elements of the file brought to our attention, the testimonies as well as the explanations and the constant version of Mr. Happio were inevitably such as to demonstrate that the facts of which he was accused were manifestly false. Wilfried Happio now wants to focus fully on his career. »
According to the accuser, the facts took place on the night of September 20, 2021 after returning from an evening organized by a common sponsor. Insep (National Institute of Sport, Expertise and Performance), which hosts the two athletes, had led an internal investigation which had not resulted in any sanction, the facts could not be materially established.
The complainant “takes note, but deplores” the classification without follow-up, which dates from February, her lawyer, Me Lina Belkora, told AFP. “It reserves the right to file a complaint with a civil action”, she added.
On June 25, 2022, the European vice-champion in the 400m hurdles was attacked by the complainant’s brother during the French Championships in Caen (Calvados). Placed in police custody on December 20, 2022 in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, the 24-year-old young man had been released without any prosecution. Happio took fourth place at the Worlds in Eugene last summer.
