Soon a new heat pump factory in France. The Atlantic group announces this Friday, October 13 that it will set up a new factory near Chalon-sur-Saône, in the Saône-et-Loire department. The French group will make an investment of 150 million euros for this new unit. The start of production is planned for 2025, and, at full capacity in 2028, it must manufacture 180,000 units each year.

The heat pump is an electric heating system that uses thermal energy transfer to heat air or water. From an environmental perspective, it is a very efficient system. Much more than those using fossil fuels, fuel oil or coal, but also more efficient than electric convectors. As such, it is encouraged by the government for both new construction and renovation. Problem: today, heat pumps installed in France are largely imported. The government is therefore pushing for the establishment of a purely French sector. It aims to increase the number of heat pumps manufactured in France by almost three times by 2030, from 350,000 to 1 million. The law “green industry», which has just been approved by Parliament, contains a tax credit for heat pump manufacturers. Announced several months ago, this measure does not seem sufficient to meet the objectives. Additional measures were announced at the end of September. As for cars from 2024, the payment of subsidies will therefore be conditional on the carbon content of the pumps. This should make it possible to release those that will be manufactured at the ends of the world. To encourage players to develop in France, the government is proposing to provide them with personalized support both to find land and to support them in the administrative procedures in order to obtain all the necessary permits.

It was this follow-up that convinced Atlantic to come and settle near Chalon. The French group is the French number one in heat pumps, with a turnover of 3.2 billion euros, 31 industrial sites and 13,000 employees. For many months, he had been considering setting up a new production site, but he was looking more towards Poland. It is a victory for the government to have succeeded in convincing Atlantic to focus instead on France.
