Speaking at a ministerial meeting of the PEAA, held on Tuesday, on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, several foreign ministers of countries party to this process welcomed the relevance of this initiative, launched in 2022 in accordance with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aimed at making the African Atlantic space a zone of peace, stability and shared prosperity.
During this meeting chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, the speakers also welcomed the launch of this important partnership which constitutes a framework for coordination and consultation, and which makes it possible to pool the efforts of member countries.
They also expressed their firm commitment to carrying out this initiative to make the Atlantic an area of peace, stability and prosperity, and a framework for promoting the blue economy, connectivity and renewable energy.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Bourita welcomed the progress made within the framework of this process, which was able to establish its institutional and programmatic anchoring, adding that this meeting constitutes an additional important step towards the consolidation of this partnership.
The minister also noted the “strategic importance” of the Atlantic area, which includes 46% of the African population, 55% of African GDP and 57% of continental trade, making it “an area of mobility and mixing, which contains enormous resources, biological and non-biological.”
Mr. Bourita stressed Morocco’s conviction that only the collective and concerted action of the Atlantic African States is likely to “promote stability and shared prosperity in our region”, adding that the federation of the efforts of these States makes it possible to meet the multiple challenges of the Atlantic African space, and take advantage of its enormous opportunities for cooperation.
Welcoming the holding, last April in Rabat, of the meeting of the PEAA Ministers of Justice, the Minister indicated that this first sectoral meeting gave rise to the Forum of Ministers of Justice, thus paving the way for a multi-sectoral African-Atlantic partnership.
This meeting in New York was attended by the foreign ministers of Benin, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mauritania, Liberia and Senegal.
