Dubai – Prominent businessman and Atlas Group Chairman MM Ramachandran (Atlas Ramachandran-80) passed away. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dubai for two days following a liver-related illness. He passed away on Sunday night following a heart attack. Funeral on Monday evening in Dubai.

He is a native of Thrissur Mullassery Madhukkara and started his official career as a bank employee. Ramachandran, who successfully branched out into many areas of business, soon rose to the forefront of prominent Malayalis in the Gulf. He also gained fame in the country with the slogan ‘Loyal institution of crores of people’.

Atlas Jewelery Group, which was started three decades ago, had about fifty branches in the countries of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia besides the UAE. 12 showrooms were operational in UAE alone. There were branches in Kerala too. Atlas was also present in healthcare, real estate and film production sectors.

He also invested in healthcare, real estate and film production. He was imprisoned in Dubai in 2015 on charges of financial crimes and was released in June 2018.
