Frenchman Gaël Monfils, 75th in the world, was eliminated in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Auckland on Monday, just like Benjamin Bonzi. Monfils was beaten in just over 2 hours 30 minutes by Hungarian Fabian Marozsan 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-4).
In a 100% French duel, Bonzi (110th) was beaten in two sets 6-3, 7-5 by Alexandre Muller (79th). Luca Van Assche (87th), who defeated American JJ Wolf (54th), also qualified for the second round.
