Attack in Paris: the left accuses the “extreme right”

by time news

Many political figures have expressed their “astonishment”, “anger” or “sadness” after the shooting which left at least three dead and three injured in a busy street in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, at a Kurdish cultural center. Among them, the main left-wing leaders reacted vehemently.

All point to the same culprits: racism and the extreme right. “The Kurdish community and, through it, all Parisians, was targeted by these assassinations committed by a far-right activist, reacted the mayor (PS) of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. Kurds wherever they reside must be able to live in peace and security. »

“Terrible attack. The extreme right seems to have struck again. Mortally”, advances the deputy LFI Clémentine Autain, by questioning: “When will the top of the State take seriously this terrorist threat? “.

If the national anti-terrorism prosecution and its services went to the scene, there is “no element which would favor the need for their referral”, indicated the Paris prosecutor, Laure Beccuau.

“Today, the criminal attacked the Kurds. What happened should wake up each of us to the danger that the extreme right represents. To give legitimacy to racism is to arm the identities, ”says the number one of the PS, Olivier Faure.

“Sadness and anger at the terrorist attack targeting the Kurdish cultural center Amet Kaya in Paris,” declared the rebellious leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon, on Twitter. “Almost to the day 10 years ago three Kurdish leaders were murdered in the heart of Paris. That’s enough ! he continued, pleading for the “protection of our Kurdish allies”.

Sandrine Rousseau, Green MP for Paris, also pointed to the danger of the far right: “It’s time to stop minimizing and turning a blind eye to far-right violence. »

A suspect was arrested and taken into custody shortly after the incident. According to two police sources, this 69-year-old retired train driver, of French nationality, is notably suspected of having already stabbed at least two migrants in a camp in Paris on the morning of December 8, 2021. It is still unclear at this stage whether he has any ties with a political party or formation.
