The municipality of Timbiquí, in the department of Cauca, was shaken by a terrorist attack on Tuesday afternoon, leaving destruction and chaos.

The explosion, which was allegedly aimed at the National Navy, seriously affected the community, with more than 200 homes. and commercial premises suffering structural damage.

The attack, which according to witnesses was caused by the explosion of two cylinder bombssparked panic among the residents of Timbiquí. Many initially thought it was an earthquake due to the magnitude of the shock wave that shook the area. Images circulating on social media show the terrible impact: collapsed walls, collapsed roofs and debris scattered across the streets.

Devastating impact without fatalities

Despite extensive material damage, local authorities confirmed that there were no fatalities or serious injuries.although the condition of a marine who may have been injured is being investigated. Mayor Kilian Cuero expressed the dismay of the community, which had not experienced an attack of this magnitude in a long time. “We are going through a very painful situation for our people. It has been a long time since we have seen something like this in Timbiquí, and the fear is palpable in the streets. It is not just about the destroyed houses, it is the fear and uncertainty that remains among us,” said the mayor.

This attack comes at a time of high tension in the region. Hours before the attack, the Military Forces had reported the neutralization of at least 15 FARC dissidents in fighting in nearby areas. Although the group responsible for the attack has not yet been identified, authorities suspect the involvement of criminal organizations such as the FARC dissidents or the National Liberation Army (ELN), which have an active presence in the region.

Immediately after the attack, local authorities and law enforcement agencies convened an extraordinary security council to analyze the events and coordinate the response to the emergency.
