Six soldiers are severely punished for beating civilians, the Ministry of National Defense said yesterday in a statement posted on social networks. The attack took place in the night from Wednesday to Thursday, in the district of Avaradoha (Antananarivo). The scenes were filmed by third parties who then posted the video on social networks, particularly inflaming the web.
The Ministry of National Defense announced yesterday the dismissal of the six soldiers who were identified and arrested. They were handed over to the national gendarmerie for investigation and will be referred to the prosecution for assault.
The Ministry of National Defense is trying to appease people’s minds through this decision. He also indicates that he wants to set an example of severity to soldiers who might be tempted to dishonor the Army and its values.
This attack nevertheless aroused the excitement of the inhabitants of Avaradoha who demonstrated their dissatisfaction in the street yesterday evening. They held up placards denouncing in particular the violence committed by the police against the population of the district.
