Because the cancellation, last year, by the Federal Supreme Court, of his two convictions did not clear him of all suspicion in the eyes of part of Brazilian opinion. Nearly one in two Brazilians think that these aborted procedures are not worth absolution, an opinion shared in particular by 22% of voters of the Workers’ Party (PT), his own political party.
