Attempt to control the “Central Bank” threatens Libya’s global financial center

The head of the Libyan government assigned by the House of Representatives, Osama Hamad, warned, In a meeting with supervisors and directors of financial services offices in all cities and regions in Libya, “Attempting to control the Central Bank of Libya in violation will increase the state of fragmentation and division, negatively impact the Libyan economy, and expose the country’s financial position to danger in the face of global markets.”

Hammad said: “There are those who are trying to control the Central Bank to achieve illegitimate personal goals in violation of the legislation and decisions issued in this regard and to bypass the efforts made to unify the financial institutions and the general budget, to achieve the principle of clarity and transparency in public spending.”

He also warned that “these suspicious movements have caused stifling and stressful crises for citizens, including a lack of confidence in banking transactions and a shortage or scarcity of cash liquidity.”

He stressed that “the government will not stand idly by in the face of these attempts and illegal practices to control the financial center and the people’s resources and attempts to seize the state’s revenues and squander them in an unprecedented manner, which leads to the collapse of the national economy.”

Hammad said: “The government is ready to take all measures, decisions and options that prevent the waste of the people’s money and its transfer to any party outside the legitimacy.”
