The MP assures that during the meeting with Almagro and the OAS delegation it was possible to verify from the official source, the information related to the investigative actions carried out by the Public Ministry in follow-up to complaints received in that agency, where he assured that the investigations are carried out to guarantee the rule of law, democracy and fundamentally the rights of the victims, to whom the Public Ministry is owed.
“As previously disclosed, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is a technical, not a political entity, and its work is part of its constitutional mandate, which is criminal prosecution and the investigation of publicly actionable crimes,” said Porras.

He also referred to the statement issued by the Ibero-American Association of Public Prosecutors (AIAMP), in which they reiterate their concern about constant acts of political pressure that affect Public Prosecutors, Prosecutors and Attorneys General, violating the autonomy and independence of these institutions.
The Attorney General reiterated that the investigation is a guarantee of the rights of each citizen that cannot be considered intimidation or harassment. “Investigating can never become a tool of intimidation since it is the only means that allows the clarification of the veracity of the facts denounced by the victims,” she said in a statement shared with the media.
Porras Argueta emphasized that the investigations will continue to guarantee the rule of law, democracy and fundamentally the rights of the victims, to whom the Public Ministry is owed.

ALMAGRO WILL PROVIDE SUPPORT TO THE TRANSITION PROCESS
After receiving an invitation from President Alejandro Giammattei, a delegation from the OAS, headed by Almagro, arrived in the country to accompany the transition process of the president-elect, Bernardo Arévalo, who obtained the majority of votes on August 20 in the second round. electoral.
Bernardo Arévalo participated in the electoral contest with the Movimiento Semilla party, a political group that is accused of anomalies in its constitution and that, after denunciations of falsification of signatures, Judge Fredy Orellana ordered the suspension of the legal personality of the party. Meanwhile, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) has reiterated that according to the Electoral and Political Parties Law (LEPP), it is not possible until the electoral process ends, next October.
This judicialization of the electoral process has caused the rejection of the population and the international community, a situation that has generated criticism of Porras, including citizen requests for his resignation. However, the Attorney General has maintained her position and it has been reiterated that her role is technical.
“We have no commitment to any institution, neither national nor international, only with God and with the people of Guatemala, our function is to investigate and that is what we do as an eminently technical entity,” says Porras.
