Attorney General that Netanyahu violated the law

by time news

JERUSALEM – The country’s attorney general has come out against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as popular protests continue in Israel against a law that would curtail the powers of the judiciary. Attorney General Gali Baharao Miera has warned that it is illegal for a person on trial in corruption cases to directly intervene in legislation that alters the justice system.

Last Wednesday, the Israeli parliament passed a bill that would give the government the power to disqualify the prime minister. With this, the Attorney General criticized Netanyahu as violating the country’s law, which prohibits those involved in criminal cases from interfering in important legislative matters or judge appointments. In their letter to Netanyahu, they pointed out that even if the law is passed by removing the authority of the court, the law preventing conflicts of interest will not disappear.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu, who arrived in London for a meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, was greeted by protesters waving the Israeli flag. When he went to Sunak’s official residence to discuss Iran’s nuclear program and the Ukraine conflict, slogans against Netanyahu rose from the streets.
