The AU PSC Communiqué comes in consecration and recognition of the pioneering role of the Kingdom of Morocco in the implementation of the African agenda for the emergence of a stable, prosperous and democratic Africa, which fully takes ownership of its destiny, with full confidence in its capacities and skills, in accordance with the enlightened Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him.
It should be noted that the AU PSC adopted its 1224th Communiqué following the presentation by the AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Mr. Adeoye Bankole of the report of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on the elections held in Africa between January and June 2024 and in which Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat underlines that the 3rd specialized training of short-term AU electoral observers, held in Rabat, Morocco, from April 29 to May 3, 2024, benefited 75 participants, mainly young people and women, from nearly 50 African countries.
This training cycle, he explained, helped strengthen the participants’ capacities in electoral observation missions, for better democratic governance in Africa.
This 3rd training cycle was marked by a notable representation of young people and women from the five regions of our African continent.
In the same report, the President of the Commission also welcomed the organization in Rabat, within the framework of the 3rd training cycle, of the 1st Dialogue Seminar on elections and democracy in Africa, aimed at improving understanding of key issues related to elections in Africa.
This Seminar represented both an unprecedented innovation in the approach to training African election observers and also offered an opportunity for African researchers and academics to deepen their thinking on this topic of capital importance for the Continent.
The Rabat training cycle, which is dedicated as an institutionalized continental event in Morocco, was held in the presence of several Moroccan experts and consolidates the success of the previous sessions, held in Rabat in 2022 and 2023. It is an integral part of the active partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the African Union to promote political governance in Africa.
With the successful organization of this 3rd edition of the training cycle, the Kingdom becomes the 1st African country training election observers in Africa. Indeed, the three training cycles organized in Rabat have trained 155 African observers, thus making it possible to develop a database of African observers on a continental scale.
