The Permanent Representative of Morocco to the AU and UNECA, Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, who spoke at a PSC meeting via videoconference on the situation in Gabon and Niger, reaffirmed that the Kingdom of Morocco continues to closely monitor developments in the situation in Gabon and stresses the importance of preserving the stability of this brotherly country and the tranquility of its population.

Morocco trusts in the wisdom of the Gabonese nation, its vital forces and its national institutions, to move towards a perspective that allows it to act in the higher interest of the country, to safeguard the achievements made and to respond to the aspirations of the brotherly Gabonese people, stressed the Moroccan diplomat.

“Our delegation recommends, through this august Council, that the PSC, the decision-making body for conflict management and resolution, accompany Gabon by supporting its efforts towards a successful transition. We must collectively commit to facilitating a rapid and effective response to this situation that will promote Gabon’s return to its natural place within the AU,” insisted the Moroccan diplomat.

Regarding Niger, the Moroccan diplomat reaffirmed that since the outbreak of the situation in the Republic of Niger, the Kingdom of Morocco has been closely following the events that are taking place and stresses the importance of maintaining the stability of this brother country.

Morocco trusts in the wisdom of the people and the vital forces of Niger to preserve the achievements, maintain its important constructive regional role and work towards achieving the aspirations of its brotherly people. Niger remains a major player on the regional, continental and international scene. Its stability, prosperity and development are assets for our continent through which the resolution of the region’s problems passes, stressed Mr. Arrouchi who leads the Moroccan delegation to this meeting.

“Our delegation calls for considering the situation in Niger with great wisdom and avoiding divisions which, ultimately, go against the interests of the Nigerien people,” Mr. Arrouchi reaffirmed.

The Kingdom, continued the Moroccan diplomat, calls for support for peace, security and development efforts in Gabon and Niger, as well as providing all countries in transition with the necessary support and assistance to meet the many challenges they face and bring peace and stability to all of these brother countries.

“In this regard, our delegation stresses that the support of all these countries towards a political solution should be guided by an assessment of the vital needs of their specific needs. This implies a holistic and multidimensional approach that takes into account the peace, security and development dimension in order to establish a solid basis for a successful transition and a lasting political solution,” reiterated the Moroccan diplomat.
