The Moroccan delegation, which spoke at a public session of the PSC on “inclusive education in conflict situations in Africa”, stressed that the Kingdom has put in place ambitious national strategies for the development of education at the national level and within the framework of its South-South interaction.

Morocco based its model of cooperation with its southern brothers on professional and academic training programs for young Africans, recalled the Moroccan delegation during this meeting held by videoconference.

This important pillar of the vision of solidarity of His Majesty the King is supported by the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI), which grants scholarships to thousands of African students each year, allowing them to continue their studies in Moroccan universities and higher education institutions, the delegation reaffirmed.

In this regard, the Moroccan delegation noted that since 1999, some 35,000 students from 47 African countries have continued their training in universities, institutes and training centers in Morocco, after benefiting from scholarships granted by Morocco.

This interest in education is not limited to this aspect which has just been described, it also includes the development and strengthening of dedicated infrastructures in several brother countries, added the Moroccan delegation.

Furthermore, and aware of the importance of the theme of education, in relation to peace and security, the Kingdom of Morocco organized, on the sidelines of the 44th session of the Executive Council of the African Union, at the ministerial level, a Luncheon-Debate on the theme “Education, youth, cultural diversity: Vectors of Peace and Security in Africa”, where the various speakers noted the crucial importance of education in promoting values, skills and the social responsibility of schools, recalled the Moroccan delegation.

Returning to the theme of this meeting, the Moroccan delegation stressed that armed conflicts and political instability have devastating consequences on education systems. This is manifested, among other things, through the destruction of school infrastructure and the displacement of populations, thus interrupting their schooling and disrupting the education systems of the host areas, not to mention the diversion of budgets to war efforts, to the detriment of education and the promotion of its quality, it noted.

Conversely, the Moroccan delegation affirmed, inclusive education can play a crucial role in preventing and resolving conflicts, through the promotion of the values of peace, tolerance and mutual respect, the development of skills such as communication and critical thinking, the strengthening of intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding between different communities.

In conflict contexts, education can be a source of hope and opportunity for children and young people, and can contribute to building more resilient societies. From there, it is essential, even crucial, to invest in education, protect schools and promote inclusive and quality education systems, the delegation insisted.
