Audi is likely to stop production of its luxury SUV Q8 e-tron, which is produced in Brussels. The plant in Belgium is now in jeopardy. There is no new plan yet.

The Volkswagen subsidiary Audi has not yet found a profitable new vehicle project for the Brussels plant, which is on the brink of collapse. The search for external investors is continuing, an Audi spokesman said on Tuesday.

The employee representatives have been informed of this. The factory with 3,000 employees in the Belgian capital builds the electric luxury SUV Q8 e-tron, which may be discontinued due to insufficient demand.

Audi announced in July that it would review its Brussels plant after write-offs and restructuring had led to a burden of 1.3 billion euros. The core brand Volkswagen is also considering plant closures in Germany, which the works council is doing everything in its power to prevent.

Meanwhile, there is a change in the plant management in Brussels: Thomas Bogus, currently project manager for the production of fully electric Audi models, will take over from Volker Germann in the middle of the month. The latter has shaped the brand with the four rings’ move into electromobility, explained Audi Production Board Member Gerd Walker. He is now preparing for new tasks in the Audi Group. “Thomas Bogus will lead the site in these challenging times.”

The legally required consultation process between companies and social partners on the intended restructuring will therefore continue.
