The Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) has been working hard in recent days to finalize the hiring of Marcelo Bielsa as technical director of the Uruguayan Football Team. Although a sports agreement has been reached with the 67-year-old Argentine, there are still several aspects to be closed, especially the economic one.
As reported by various media, There is already an agreement between what the Executive Committee of the AUF intends and Bielsa’s aspirations, which will no longer be an obstacle to continue negotiating. However, an economic agreement has not yet been closed, although the AUF assures that “it is about to come to fruition”.
“There has been progress, but there is no closed agreement. It is still not even close to being closed, ”they said from the AUF. “There are still contacts of all kinds because there are many details to solve and agree on,” they added.
Despite this, from the AUF they affirm that there is a high probability that Bielsa will become the new coach of the Uruguayan team.
The idea is to define the topic before the end of the month so that Bielsa is working in May and can lead the team on the FIFA date in June.since in September the Qualifiers for the World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the United States 2026 will begin.
