After suffering a disappointing defeat in the 2022 T20 World Cup held in their home country and failing to retain the trophy, Australia next take on the West Indies in a 2-match Test series. In the same T20 World Cup, West Indies, who suffered a shock defeat in the first round, were expected to perform well and return to winning ways in this series held as part of the World Test Championship Cup.
But the West Indies did worse in the second match on December 8 after losing the series by 164 runs in the first match which started on 30 November in Perth. Australia won the toss and declared their first innings amassing 511/7 at the famous Adelaide Oval cricket ground in the pink-ball match at midnight.
Although a few players like David Warner 21, Captain Steve Smith 8, Cameron Green 9 got out with few runs, the main players like Usman Khawaja 62, world number one batsman Marnus Labuschagne 163, Travis Head 175 scored enough runs to lead Australia. Davon Thomas and Alsari Joseph took maximum 2 wickets each for West Indies. Subsequently, the West Indies, who were stumbling with the red ball, could not compensate Australia, who bowled well with the pink ball, and were all out for 214 runs in their first innings.

Captain Brathwaite 19, Brooks 8, Blackwood 3, Davon Thomas 13, Jason Holder 0, the main players were out with few runs, the young player Dagnaren Chanderpal scored the maximum 47 runs for the West Indies team. Nathan Lion took the maximum 3 wickets on behalf of Australia, who was amazing in bowling. After that, Australia started the 2nd innings with a lead of 297 runs and declared 199/6 thanks to the runs of key players such as Usman Khawaja 45, Marnus Labuschagne 31, Steve Smith 35 and Travis Head 38*.

Alsari Joseph took maximum 3 wickets for West Indies. Chasing a Himalayan target of 497 in the end, the West Indies team displayed worse batting than the first innings against Australia’s precise bowling and were bowled out for just 77 runs. Mitchell Starc, Michael Nasir and Scott Boland took the maximum 3 wickets each for Australia with Dagnaren Chanderpal scoring 17 runs.

Australia won by a massive margin of 419 runs and broke their 52-year-old record of winning the most runs against the West Indies in the history of Test cricket. The previous record was won by 389 runs in the Test match held in Sydney in 1969. So Australia won the series with a whitewash of 2 – 0 (2) and proved once again that they are the strongest team at home.

Meanwhile, the team has topped the World Test Championship Cup points table with 108 points with 75 percent. This puts Australia in a good position to qualify for the Test Championship final if they win the Border-Gavaskar series at home against India in February.
