Immigration Minister Alex Hawke used his power to revoke Djokovic’s visa.

Melbourne:

Serbia’s star player Novak Djokovic has been banned from taking part in the Australian Open tennis series due to start in Melbourne on Monday.

Djokovic was denied entry after the Australian government said only those who had been vaccinated with two doses would be allowed into the country as the corona virus infection was on the rise in Australia. Australian Border Security Force officials revoked his visa and detained him in Melbourne.

Subsequently, the ban was overturned by a federal court in Melbourne. However, Immigration Minister Alex Hawke used his power to revoke Djokovic’s visa. Djokovic was thus remanded in custody. Also, a petition has been filed in the court by the government regarding his deportation on the ground that he is a threat to public order. The petition is scheduled to be heard tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Spain’s Rafael Nadal has commented on Djokovic’s visa denial in Australia. Nadal said the importance given to any player is no bigger than the Australian Open tennis series. Djokovic is a great player; Nadal said the Australian Open would be better even if he did not participate.

Djokovic, along with Federer and Nadal, is a 20-time Grand Slam champion.
