Sydney: Australia has announced a no – diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Olympics, following in the footsteps of the United States and New Zealand. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said the boycott is in the national interest and should not be seen as a sign of the Chinese government’s serious human rights abuses and repression against Uyghurs. In addition, China has drawn strong criticism from around the world over the Hong Kong issue and its attempts to invade Taiwan. Meanwhile, there are reports that Japan and Britain will boycott the Beijing Olympics at the diplomatic level. But neither country has issued an official statement on the matter.
