Canberra: A state of emergency has been declared in Australia following flash floods.

Heavy rains have been continuing over the east coast of Australia for the past few weeks. As a result, the states of New South Wales and Queensland have been hit hard. In Queensland, more than 20,000 homes and businesses have been flooded. Brisbane, the province, has just received 80 percent of its annual rainfall.

Similarly, Sydney, New South Wales recorded the heaviest rainfall ever. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in Lismore, Clarence Valley and Richmond Valley, with at least 22 people dead.
