Australia: Four children were killed after an inflatable was blown away by the wind

by time news

Four children were killed and five others were fatally injured after the inflatable castle on which they jumped flew in the wind and they fell from a height of about 10 meters, local police said today (Thursday). The incident was also reported to have occurred during an end-of-school year event at an elementary school on the island of Tasmania, in southeastern Australia.

“Instead of celebrating with the students their last day at school, we mourn their loss,” the local police officer said. “This is a very tragic event. We are embracing the families and the school,” added local station chief Debbie Williams, adding that “a gust of wind seemed to cause the inflatable castle to rise into the air. It is a tragic event and our hearts with families and school are undoubtedly a difficult one.”

Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, Said that “the accident is unbelievably heartbreaking. Young children went out for a fun day that turned into such a terrible tragedy. It just breaks your heart.” The head of the district added that “my heart goes out to those killed and injured in the incident. It is difficult for me to find the right words in such tragic circumstances.”
