Australia Government To Give Refugees Immigration | More than 19,000 refugees are about to be released in Australia

by time news

Sydney: More than 19,000 refugees have been stuck in limbo in Australia for more than a decade. Australia’s Immigration Minister Andrew Giles is set to make a new announcement that refugees who have been separated from their families will be allowed to travel overseas to reunite with their families.

It has been reported that the Australian government is planning to change a previous order that would give lower priority to family reunification visas for refugees who arrived in Australia by boat before 2013 and stayed on permanent visas.

The policy change is said to apply to those who arrived by boat and were accepted as refugees and are currently in Australia on temporary protection visas or safe-haven enterprise visas.

Based on the promise made during the election, the ruling Labor Party in Australia is making arrangements to grant permanent protection visas to 19,000 refugees who are currently on temporary visas.

At the same time, no changes have been brought in the issue of refugees who arrived by boat after July 19, 2013. It is also significant that these refugees will continue to have to move their lives in a state of uncertainty.

Why the July 19, 2013 deadline?

The then prime minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd, had announced that anyone arriving by boat after July 19, 2013 would not be resettled in Australia. First, refugees arriving by boat after this deadline were separated and approached accordingly. These refugees have been detained for years, and more than a hundred remain in the overseas detention camp for more than a decade.

In this context, refugee Mostafa Azimtabar, who met with Australian Immigration Minister Andrew Giles, reported that the minister said the Labor government would not change its policy. This means that refugees who arrived after July 19, 2013, like Mostafa, and who have been taken to Australia for medical treatment will not be granted permanent visas.

“The politics of last decade are not relevant now. But we are paying the price, this Labor government will not protect our rights,” said the refugee.
