by time news

The Australian Foreign Office announced new sanctions against Russia. They will affect 33 “Russian oligarchs, well-known businessmen and their close family members.” Among them are billionaire Roman Abramovich, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezov, and VEB.RF Chairman Igor Shuvalov.

The entire list is not available on the Australian Foreign Office website. The restrictions also included Dmitry Lebedev, chairman of the board of directors of Rossiya Bank, Nikolay Tokarev, head of Transneft, and Kirill Dmitriev, general director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

Australia believes the sanctioned Russians have “accumulated enormous personal wealth and are of economic and strategic importance to Russia.” She supported the sanctions of Canada, the European Union, New Zealand, Great Britain and the United States against “key Russian individuals.”

The Australian Foreign Office notes that it has imposed more than 460 sanctions in recent days. They apply to President Vladimir Putin, the Central Bank, the RDIF, the Russian Armed Forces, political and military figures, and other Russians.
