Corona-Wende in Down Under:

Australia wants to open its borders again from November.

Vaccinated Australians should then be allowed to re-enter and travel abroad, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Friday.

Australia closed its borders in March 2020 in response to the corona pandemic. Since then, trips abroad have only been possible with a special permit. Numerous Australians were also refused entry.

According to the authorities, more than 100,000 applications for entry or exit were rejected in the first five months of this year alone. The consequent isolation of the country led to the separation of families; Foreigners in Australia were stuck in their adopted country.

“The time has come to give the Australians their lives back”, said Morrison. The easing would be implemented “very soon”. The prerequisite for this is an 80 percent vaccination quota in the country. The Australian airline Qantas has already announced that it will be offering flights to London and Los Angeles again from mid-November.

According to Morrison, the quarantine requirements in Australia are also to be relaxed. Vaccinated travelers will no longer have to go to a hotel for two weeks in the future. Instead, they can do the quarantine, which has been halved to a week, at home.
