Melbourne exits the longest lockdown in the world: after 262 days pubs, restaurants and cafes reopen, but only for vaccinated

He first Scott Morrison announced that Melbourne, Australia’s second most populous city, is ready to return to “semi-normal” after a 262-day lockdown, a world record.

From 22 October open pubs, restaurants and cafes, but only for people fully vaccinated with two doses.

The rigidity of the measures adopted is due to the wide diffusion of the Delta variant, but later nearly nine months of confinement and a vaccination campaign that has led 70% of Over 16s to receive two doses of the vaccine, there are conditions for a slight attenuation.

Morrison has promised that further mitigations will be implemented upon reaching 80% – 90% of the full cycle vaccinated population.

Last week Sydney and Canberra also came out of the lockdown, following a similar acceleration in the vaccination campaign.
